liner notes
Power of the Soul - When Chuck and Greg first got together, Chuck gave greg a 90 minute cassette tape of ideas. (Yes we are dating ourselves) All songs with no lyrics. Greg heard three notes from one of the idea's and wrote the chorus in 2 minutes. The verse came from a very fast bridge part on that tape. It had nothing to do with the song, but just a short 2 bar segway. Greg heard the verse in his head when he heard that part so we slowed it down and it worked.
On My Way - only one part is repeated one time in this 8 minute tune. The words came to Greg on a 40 minute drive home from the city. He finished writing them before he got home.
Safe Harbor - Intro - One take with Danny and me. Danny wrote this song himself years ago with a jazz feel. It’s still there but also has a harder edge. Billy adds a strong progressive flavor to this one.
Dream Away - First song we wrote in this band.
Perception/ Riddles and Rhymes - both of these songs were written and recorded by Chuck with a previous band. He showed them to us and we saw the potential. We re-wrote the words and most of the melodies to make them HG songs. Billy and John put their touch on it and really brought a lot of power to these songs. No one would recognize them from the originals.
Y2K / Visions / Awaken – Wow! I didn't know a drummer could write songs. Fleshed out by the rest of the band. When we get together, over time, these take on a true Higher Ground feel – what we all bring to the table.
Song for America – We just had to. This song has a special meaning to everyone in the band. We all remember the first time we heard it and that's a long time ago ! We need to thank Kerry Livgren for writing it and Kansas for performing it so exceptionally.
We hope you enjoy listening to our music as much as we enjoy making it. |
